Galerie Aveline
GALERIE AVELINE and CAMILLE LEPRINCE invite you to discover or rediscover the artist known as the ‘Painter of the Milan Marsyas’, a major artist of the Italian Renaissance, in the art of painting on majolica. Italian majolica, a decorative ceramic characterised by its coloured glazes and elaborate motifs, will play a central role in the exhibition. An important collection of historiated majolica made in the Duchy of Urbino in the 1530s will be on show, to highlight the important work of research done by Greta Kaucher that results in an essential monograph: Le peintre du Marsyas de Milan - la majolique historiée à Urbino en 1530, edited by Camille Leprince and Justin Raccanello (Feu et Talent). In it, she offers an exhaustive catalogue of the artist's work.
‘Lumières d'Italie’ showcases the Duchy of Urbino, sharing a fascinating insight into the history and artistic culture of the Peninsula. This event will be illuminated thanks to a selection of works of Italian decorative art from different periods and movements that have shaped its cultural heritage. Once the prerogative of the greatest collectors, Italian majolica today remains the privilege of the most enlightened connoisseurs. The fusion of 16th-century technical skills with the preferences of those who commissioned them has ensured that these creations have had a lasting influence, which continues to shine brightly today.
To mark the occasion, Galerie Aveline, which specialises in 18th-century furniture, will display works representing the Italian decorative arts: furniture, objets d'art, sculptures and paintings, including a Roman chest of drawers circa 1760 with a stunning modern decoration inspired by Asian fabrics.
The ‘Versos’ series of Italian paintings from the collections of the Musée du Louvre, and the safe from the Palazzo Farnese in Rome, by the artist-photographer PHILIPPE GRONON (1964-), will add that much-appreciated contemporary touch.
We invite you, the media, collectors, art historians and art lovers to join us for an exhibition that promises a unique immersion in Italian art. This experience will give you the opportunity to perceive the richness and beauty of Italian art through different media and across the ages.
The ‘Lumières d'Italie’ exhibition will run from 6 June to 6 July 2024 at Galerie Aveline, located at 94 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré on Place Beauvau, in the heart of Paris's 8th arrondissement.
